Why I Created C&Co.®

Apr 3, 2026

C&Co.® was born in 2012 from a quiet frustration with an industry that often prioritizes trends over true skin health. I saw formulas that overpromised and underdelivered—products filled with aggressive actives, imbalanced pH levels, and disconnected ingredient stories that ultimately left the skin more compromised than supported. What I wanted instead was simple in concept, yet rarely executed well: skincare that works with the skin, not against it.

At its core, C&Co.® was created to restore balance—starting with the skin barrier and acid mantle, the two systems most responsible for how our skin looks, feels, and functions.

The acid mantle is the skin’s first line of defense, a delicate, slightly acidic film that protects against environmental stress, bacteria, and moisture loss. When disrupted—often by harsh cleansers, overly alkaline products, or excessive exfoliation—the skin begins to show signs of imbalance: sensitivity, dehydration, reactivity, inflammation, and premature aging. Supporting this natural pH is not optional; it is foundational.

This is why every C&Co.® formula is intentionally pH balanced. Not as a trend, but as a non-negotiable standard. When the skin remains within its optimal pH range, it can better retain hydration, defend itself, and maintain resilience over time.

From there, the focus turns to the skin barrier itself. A healthy barrier is rich in lipids—ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids—that hold skin cells together and prevent transepidermal water loss (TEWL). When that barrier is weakened, the skin becomes reactive, dry, and more vulnerable to external damage.

Since the beginning, C&Co.® formulations have been built to replenish and reinforce this structure through the use of organic lipids and ceramides that mirror the skin’s own composition. These ingredients are not simply added for label appeal—they are selected for their ability to integrate seamlessly into the skin, restoring what has been depleted and strengthening what remains.

Equally important is the role of the skin microbiome. The skin is not sterile; it is a living ecosystem. When balanced, it helps regulate inflammation, protect against harmful bacteria, and support overall skin function. When disrupted, the effects can be visible and persistent. This is why probiotics are thoughtfully incorporated into our formulations—to help maintain microbial harmony and support the skin’s natural defense systems. Rather than stripping the skin and forcing it into submission, we believe in nurturing its innate intelligence.

Plant-based formulation was also a deliberate choice. Not because it is trending, but because many plant-derived ingredients offer a level of compatibility that synthetic alternatives often lack. Botanical lipids, in particular, can closely resemble the fatty acid profile of human skin, allowing for better absorption, improved barrier support, and a more intuitive skin feel.

But plant-based does not mean unrefined or unscientific. Every ingredient is selected with clinical intention and testing, balancing nature with formulation expertise to ensure both safety and efficacy. C&Co.® is also rooted in transparency. From seed to skin, ingredient traceability matters. Knowing where ingredients come from, how they are processed, and how they function within a formula allows for a level of integrity that cannot be achieved through shortcuts. Small-batch production further supports this standard, ensuring freshness, consistency, and attention to detail in every product created.

Ultimately, I created C&Co.® to offer an alternative—to step away from overly complicated and return to what the skin truly needs: balance, compatibility, and support. Skincare should not feel like a constant cycle of damage and repair. It should feel stable and the outcome should be consistent.

C&Co.® is skincare designed to respect the skin barrier, protect the acid mantle, and work in harmony with the biology of your skin—because when those systems are supported, healthy skin is not forced. It simply functions as it is intended.
