Why our Brand and Artisan Soap is Palm Oil Free

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find a bar of soap that does not include palm oil? It is something that truly upsets me as it is possible to formulate an amazing bar of soap with more sustainable oils.

For those who are unaware, palm oil is an inexpensive oil that has increased in demand worldwide and is partially to blame for the deforestation of our rain forests. After looking at many statistics on this oil, it appears that approximately 24% of palm oil consumption is used in manufacturing of consumer products which includes cosmetics, detergents, candles, etc.

Due to the high demand for palm oil and the limelight that has been shed on the ecological impact of harvesting this oil, we now have organizations that are working to create a more sustainable palm oil. With any set of rules or regulations, there are loopholes. Currently, new farms can still remove forest as long as the land is not deemed a "high-value" conservation forest which countries independently determine based on their own unique situation.

As a company in the cosmetic industry, I believe that we can do better and that we can further educate on how our choices impact our local and global footprint.

It is also vital to know that we are not perfect either. While we do our best to select more sustainable organic ingredients for our products, we do know that with changes in demand for plant-based ingredients, sustainability factors shift and we must be willing to pivot with these changes.
