Skin Benefits of Evening Primrose Oil
Plant-based lipids offer numerous benefits for skin health, providing deep hydration, nourishment, and protection. Rich in essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, these natural oils support healthy regeneration while strengthening the skin barrier. This variety of nutrients helps to reduce inflammation, prevent moisture loss, and enhance elasticity all of which contributes to help combat the signs of aging. Their lightweight, non-comedogenic properties make them suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin. Unlike synthetic ingredients, plant-based lipids work harmoniously with the skin’s natural composition to promote a radiant complexion that is both deeply hydrated and protected.
While our entire product line is formulated with nourishing plant-based lipids in mind, we wanted to focus solely on the skin benefits of one ingredient we use to formulate three of our facial hydrators.
Evening primrose oil is derived from the seeds of the Oenothera biennis plant, a flowering plant native to North America. Historically, Indigenous peoples used the evening primrose plant for its medicinal properties, treating wounds, bruises, and skin conditions. In the 17th century, European settlers brought the plant to Europe, where it became widely cultivated for its healing benefits and was often referred to as the "King’s Cure-All." Over time, evening primrose oil has been valued in traditional and modern herbal medicine for supporting hormonal balance, skin health, and overall wellness.
Evening primrose oil is a powerhouse ingredient for skin health, known for its ability to deeply nourish, hydrate, and restore balance. Rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential omega-6 fatty acid, it helps strengthen the skin barrier, locking in moisture and preventing dryness, making it both hydrating and occlusive. Its anti-inflammatory properties make it particularly beneficial for soothing conditions like eczema, acne, and rosacea by reducing redness, irritation, and swelling.
This plant-based lipid also supports skin elasticity and firmness, helping to smooth fine lines and improve overall texture. It aids in regulating skin's natural sebum or oil production, making it suitable for both dry and acne-prone skin. it also promotes cell regeneration and calms inflammation which contribute to a healthier, more vibrant complexion over time.
