5 Tips for Glowing Skin

1. Cleanse

Incorporating this step into your daily routine is important to maintain the health & integrity of skin along with its acid mantle. This delicate, slightly acidic film on skin defends against harmful toxins and pollution that we interact with on a moment by moment basis. We recommend a pH balanced (5.5) cleanser no matter the occasion as this step will ultimately support that glow you’re looking for. As a brand we are committed to skin health and all products are pH adjusted with this in mind.

2. Tone

Using a facial toner may seem trivial, but they help to encourage skin back to its natural pH and also help to improve the tone and texture of skin without drying or stripping. This is especially important if the cleanser you’re using is not pH balanced. We recommend using our toner as a second cleansing step to remove residual SPF, makeup and excess build-up. Simply mist onto a cotton round and sweep over face, neck, & decollete.

3. Exfoliate

This step can play a tricky role in a routine and it is important to not overdo or underdo it.  

Exfoliation is considered anything that removes the topmost layer of the epidermis; the stratum corneum. This includes masks, peels, microdermabrasion, retinol, scrubs, and the use of any facial brushes. Over exfoliation, of all types can cause an overproduction of sebum and leaving you more susceptible to topical inflammation + infections while thinning and weakening skin’s ability to properly function. We recommend non-granule exfoliation once a week or bimonthly to encourage a healthy cellular turnover. Granule exfoliants run the risk of being too abrasive on skin and can cause micro-tears that lead to premature aging and a damaged acid mantle.

4. Moisturize

Moisturizing is ever so important to keep skin glowing as it aids in the essential moisture retention. True moisturizers are oil-based and create a barrier to protect against transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We often have clients hesitant to incorporate oils into their routine, but to truly engage in skin health the skin must have oil. The skin is a lipid bilayer, meaning it is lipophilic, and needs oils (lipids) in order to truly thrive.

5. Sun Protectant

We recommend every person, at any age to incorporate a sun protectant into their routine in order to combat harmful effects of UV rays. But not all sunlight is bad! This article offers some great information regarding vitamin D. Sun protectants are our biggest advocate in defending against collagen + elastin deterioration, hyperpigmentation, and more severe concerns including skin cancers.
